GuardVerdict compares security cameras, video doorbells, intercoms, smart locks, cylinders, padlocks, alarm kits, sensors, safes and parcel boxes — and the mounts, memory cards, surveillance drives, solar panels and batteries that keep them running — across forty-five categories and five language editions. We are a small independent editorial operation, not a retailer, not a brand, and not a media group.
We write about home security equipment and its accessories, and only about that. We do not cover smoke, carbon-monoxide or gas alarms, child safety equipment, weapons or their cabinets, professional video surveillance of premises open to the public, or comfort home automation such as thermostats and speakers.
One boundary matters more here than it looks, so it is worth stating plainly. Nothing on this site prevents a break-in. A lock delays, a camera records, an alarm alerts, and a safe buys time — those are the honest descriptions of what these objects do, and we use them rather than the language of protection. Every resistance grade on this site — EN 1303 for a cylinder, EN 1300 for a safe, a VdS class, an IP or IK rating — is quoted from the maker that published it, with that source named on the page, and never worked out here. We are not a testing body and we do not assess conformity. No product described here is presented as approved by an insurer: that is what your policy says, not what a product page says. Nothing here replaces the manufacturer's own instructions, and where a job belongs to a locksmith or an electrician we say so rather than talking you through it.
The same restraint applies to the law. Filming your own property is regulated in all five countries this network publishes in, and the rules on what may appear in frame are not the same from one to the next. Where a page touches that, it describes the rule and links to the official source — CNIL, the German data protection authorities, AEPD, Garante. It never tells you that something is permitted. This site is not legal advice, and a wrong answer here would expose a reader to a complaint from their own neighbour.
How the site is funded
Every "Check price" button on this site is an affiliate link to Amazon. If you buy something after following one, Amazon pays us a commission. The price you pay is identical either way.
We think you should know the shape of that incentive rather than just its existence. Amazon pays a percentage of the sale, so in principle we earn more when you buy something expensive. Three things push against that:
- Nothing is ordered by what it pays. No hub here has ever been ordered by what it pays; we do not track which reference earns more, and the sequence of a hub is set by its price tier and nothing else. Where a cheap accessory is the right answer, it goes first.
- Price and usefulness are not the same thing. Some of the things we recommend most firmly cost under twenty euros — a water leak sensor under the washing machine, longer screws for a strike plate, a high-endurance memory card, a fresh lithium cell in a contact sensor. And the single most effective purchase on this site is a parcel box, because it removes a delivery theft rather than recording one.
- Nobody pays us for placement. We have never accepted payment, product or otherwise, in exchange for a position in a ranking. If that ever changes, it will be labelled on the page, not in a footer.
What we do not do
We do not run sponsored posts. We do not publish "top 10" lists assembled from other people's reviews. We do not rank by commission value, by conversion rate, or by what is in stock this week.
We also do not use fear to sell. Burglary statistics make effective copy and terrible advice, and a page that opens by frightening you tends to close by recommending the most expensive thing on it. Every verdict here names what it rests on: the specifications and manuals, the standards the maker declares, and the weight of what long-term owners consistently report. Where a judgement leans on one of those more than the others, the review says which.
Corrections
Prices move, models get replaced, subscription terms change, and manufacturers quietly alter components. If something here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it and say what changed. Every page carries the date it was last reviewed.
