COOAU C5 review
COOAU states a back-contact solar cell with over 30% better charging efficiency than conventional panels, behind a 2K pan-and-tilt camera with AI-assisted PIR detection and local card storage to 128 GB.
The conclusion The solar camera to choose for a wall that does not get much sun. Everything else about it is ordinary, and the cell is the reason to buy it.
Solar cameras all look identical in a listing and differ in one place that is
rarely discussed: how much they harvest from poor light. COOAU’s answer is a
back-contact cell, which moves the wiring to the rear of the panel so that
none of the front face is shaded by it.
Why that matters more than peak output
Peak output is a summer number and summer was never the problem. The month
that decides whether a solar camera survives is December, when the sun is low,
the days are short and the camera is triggered most. A cell that harvests
better from weak light is worth more than a larger one that only performs in
July.
COOAU states over 30% better efficiency than conventional panels. It does not
say which panels, so read the direction as sound and the figure as a
manufacturer’s claim.
The rest of the camera
2K, 360° of pan and tilt, color night vision, and AI-assisted PIR detection
aimed at foliage — the standard specification of this class, competently done.
Storage is a card to 128 GB or an encrypted cloud tier. The card is not
supplied and 128 GB is the lower ceiling in this hub.
Who it suits
A shaded wall, a north-facing corner, a fence under trees — anywhere a
conventional panel would spend the winter losing ground.

The questions we are asked
What is a back-contact solar cell?
A cell design that moves the electrical contacts to the rear, so no part of the front face is shaded by wiring. It genuinely produces more from the same area. COOAU states over 30% against conventional panels without naming which panels, so treat the direction as sound and the number as a claim.
Is 128 GB enough?
For event recording, easily — hundreds of clips. For continuous recording at 2K, it is a few days before the oldest footage is overwritten. Decide which mode you want before buying the card, and buy a high-endurance one either way.
Does AI detection stop false alarms?
It reduces them. Foliage moving in wind is the classic outdoor trigger and a classifier handles it well. What no classifier handles is an insect on the lens at night, lit by the camera's own infrared: it fills the frame and looks like motion because it is motion.

What buyers actually choose
Amazon reports what buyers took in the month before this page was last checked: at least 200.
The figure is a floor, rounded by Amazon, and read through Keepa — it says what buyers picked, not what a maker claims.

2K · battery · 2.4/5 GHz dual band · color night vision · free cloud clips
A dual-band battery camera at the price most single-band ones sell for. HITELLARCAM states 2K capture, color night vision, AI person detection and free cloud storage for clips alongside a card slot.
Best for: A first battery camera where the Wi-Fi at the far end of the property is the real problem.
2K 3MP · battery, 3–6 months stated · PIR detection · siren and light · 2.4 GHz
ieGeek publishes an unusually specific runtime — three to six months per charge — alongside 2K capture, PIR detection and a siren with a white light. It works indoors or out, and it is 2.4 GHz only.
Best for: A shed, a side return or a room with no socket, where the camera should be left alone for a season.
2K 3MP · solar · 355° × 120° PTZ · color night vision to 15 m (49 ft) · card to 128 GB · IP65
A fully wireless solar pan-and-tilt camera with a 130° lens, 2K capture and color night vision stated to 15 m (49 ft). ieGeek supplies warning stickers with it, which is a small detail that says something about how it expects to be used.
Best for: A garden or driveway with sun, where the camera should also be seen to be there.
