Ring Battery Video Doorbell 2K review
Ring's current battery doorbell at 2K, with a stated six-times zoom for reading detail at distance and a built-in battery charged over USB-C once the doorbell is released with the supplied tool. Recording requires a Ring Home plan.
The conclusion Mature software attached to the least generous storage terms in this hub. Sensible inside a Ring system, expensive outside one.
Ring’s advantage has never been the hardware. It is that the app is coherent, and a doorbell, an alarm and a set of
cameras behave as one system rather than as three.
What that is worth
A great deal, if you already own Ring equipment. One app, one set of
notifications, one place where everything is reviewed. Doorbells are checked
in a hurry — somebody is at the door now — and the speed of the notification matters a great deal, even though no maker in this hub publishes a figure that would let it be compared.
What it costs
There is no card slot. Recording is a Ring Home plan, and the plan does not
end. Over three years it typically exceeds the price of the doorbell itself,
and that arithmetic should be done before comparing this against the
subscription-free doorbells in the same hub.
The zoom, precisely
Ring calls it optimized zoom rather than optical, and there is no room in a
doorbell for moving glass. It lets you look closely at part of a 2K frame. It
does not create detail the sensor did not capture, and no doorbell at any
price does.
Who it suits
Existing Ring households, without hesitation. Everyone else should look at
what the same money buys with local storage.

The questions we are asked
Does it record without a plan?
No. There is no card slot, and video history is a subscription feature. Without a plan you get live view and notifications and nothing kept — which for a doorbell, whose whole purpose is showing you what happened while you were out, is the wrong half of the product.
Is the zoom optical?
Ring describes it as optimized zoom rather than optical, and a doorbell has no room for moving glass. Treat it as a way of examining part of a 2K frame rather than as a way of gathering more detail than the sensor captured.
Can the battery be swapped?
Not on this model — it is built in and not removable; you release the unit with the supplied tool and charge it with a USB-C cable, not included. Ring's cameras use removable packs; this doorbell does not, so charging means the doorbell is off the door for a few hours.

2.5K 5MP · 166° wide · night vision · two-way audio with voice change · chime included
A 5 MP doorbell on a 166° lens with a chime in the box and a voice changer on the two-way audio. BOIFUN states human detection and Alexa compatibility through its own skill.
Best for: A house where the doorbell must be audible indoors without buying a separate chime.
2K 4MP · 150°×150°×180° 1:1 view · HDR · local person, vehicle, pet and parcel detection · dual-band
The second-generation battery doorbell: the same square head-to-toe frame with HDR added, and detection that Reolink states runs locally on the device rather than in a cloud service.
Best for: A bright doorway where a caller is backlit, and an owner who wants nothing leaving the house.
2K 4MP · 1:1 head-to-toe aspect · dual-band Wi-Fi · card to 256 GB · two charging methods
Reolink uses a square 1:1 sensor rather than a widescreen one, so the frame is as tall as it is wide and shows a caller head to toe with the step included. Local storage to 256 GB, with no subscription required.
Best for: A doorstep where the parcel matters as much as the caller.
