There is one thing a battery doorbell structurally cannot do, and this
doorbell can — provided you give it a wire.
Pre-roll, and why it is the whole review
A battery doorbell sleeps. It wakes when something triggers it, and by then
the person is at the door. The clip starts with a stranger already on the
step.
Wired, this bell records the seconds before the trigger. That is where the
useful information lives: which way they came, whether they tried the handle
first, whether they walked past twice, whether there was a second person by
the gate. TP-Link states pre-roll is supported on hardwired installation only,
and that sentence is the reason to run the wire.
If there is no wire
It still works. A 10,000 mAh cell, a 180° diagonal view head to toe, 2K at
5 MP, and detection that classifies people, pets, vehicles and parcels. TP-Link
states 210 days per charge without publishing the daily event count behind it,
so we report the claim and not a converted figure.
Storage
A card of up to 512 GB, sold separately, or the Tapo Care cloud. Local storage with no monthly fee is the structural difference between this doorbell and the ones in the same hub that only record on a subscription, such as the Ring Battery Doorbell 2K.
What the listing adds
TP-Link states color night vision with a spotlight, two-way audio with a voice changer and recorded quick replies, activity zones, an anti-theft alarm if someone tries to remove the doorbell, an IP66 housing, an included chime, and Alexa and Google Assistant support.
Who it suits
Any house with an existing bell transformer. If there is a wire, this is the
doorbell.
Availability
Listed but with no offer on the American Amazon store — the reference exists there and nobody is currently selling it.
Prices and availability are what Keepa reported on the date this page was updated; both move.
