Most doors fail at the frame, not at the lock · review
ABUS 2130 review
The 2130 is ABUS's entrance-door rim lock: a sturdy two-turn deadbolt, a thumbturn on the inside and a key from outside, supplied with two keys, in white.
The conclusion ABUS's rim lock for entrance doors, in white. Check its dimensions against your door, then fix the keep properly.
This is the entrance-door member of ABUS’s rim lock range, and it does the
same job as the 2110; ABUS designates it for entrance doors.
The bolt, and why the throw matters
A two-turn deadbolt goes further into the keep than a single-turn one. That
extra engagement is not cosmetic: resisting a lever is a question of how much
steel is inside the frame and how much frame is carrying it. A bolt that only
just enters its keep leaves at the first serious push.
What is not published
The 2110 listing states door thickness of 35 to 50 mm (1.38 to 1.97 in) and a recess up to
21 mm (0.83 in). This listing does not publish equivalents, so the manual is where to
check before ordering. Where a manufacturer does not state a figure, this site
does not supply one.
The rule that governs the whole family
Fix the keep into the structural frame. The lock body is bolted through the
door and will not fail; the keep is screwed to a frame, and the timber around
two short screws is what splits. Longer screws, into the stud, cost nothing
and are the difference between hardware that works and hardware that was
there.
Who it suits
An entrance door wanting a second locking point, where the internal hardware
can be white and out of the way.

The questions we are asked
How does this differ from the 2110?
They are close relatives from the same range, both surface-mounted locks with a thumbturn inside and a key outside. The 2110 listing publishes its door thickness and recess limits; this one does not, so check the manual against your own door before ordering.
What does a two-turn deadbolt mean?
The key turns twice, throwing the bolt further into the keep. More engagement means more of the bolt to shear and more of the frame carrying the load — which is the whole mechanism by which a lock resists levering.
Is white a sensible choice?
On a white vinyl or painted door, it is the finish that disappears. Visible internal hardware is the main objection people have to surface-mounted locks, and matching the door removes most of it.

Surface-mounted additional lock for entrance doors
A slide latch that mounts on the door frame and engages a plate on the door. It is not a bar spanning the frame, not a long strike plate reaching the stud, and not a hinge bolt — the three load-spreading designs this shelf's introduction names. Nothing on this shelf is any of the three
Finger grooves and unlock arrows: pinch top and bottom, slide towards the hinges, pull outward. No tools, stated as a quick release in an emergency
A 3-inch stop in metal construction, stated — a slide latch on the frame engaging a base plate on the door. Not a bar, not a long strike plate, not a hinge bolt
Index finger on top, thumb on the bottom, slide away from the base plate towards the hinges and pull outward. No tools, and the listing says it takes a little practice — the only listing here to say so
A slide latch mounted on the door frame, released towards the hinges. Not a bar spanning the frame, not a long strike plate, not a hinge bolt — none of the three designs this shelf's introduction names
An upgraded groove design: pinch the lock top and bottom, slide horizontally along the door towards the hinges until it can be pulled out. Stated as unlocking in seconds even in an emergency, and the groove is the only part of the mechanism this listing claims to have changed
