A general-purpose 128 GB card, and a perfectly sound choice for the right camera.

Where it belongs

A trail camera emptied every few weeks. A second camera recording occasional events. A spare in a drawer so a failed card can be swapped the same evening rather than the following week.

Where it does not

Continuous recording. A general-purpose card in a camera that overwrites it every few days will fail sooner than an endurance card, and the failure is silent — the camera reports a healthy card and records nothing.

The practical discipline

Replace cards on a calendar rather than on symptoms. A card in a continuously-recording camera is a consumable, and the day you discover otherwise is the day the footage mattered.

The number on the box

200 MB/s is a read speed. A camera only writes, and every modern card writes faster than any camera here produces data. It is not a reason to choose between cards.

The questions we are asked

Is a cheap card a false economy in a camera?

It depends entirely on the workload. In a trail camera emptied every few weeks, no — the card barely works. In a camera recording continuously, yes: replacing it twice is more expensive than buying an endurance card once, and the intervening failure was silent.

Why do cards fail silently?

Because a worn card usually accepts the write and loses it, rather than reporting an error the camera can act on. The camera shows a healthy status and records nothing. That is why cards should be replaced on a schedule rather than on symptoms.
