EZVIZ

Intercoms with a screen on the wall, and unusually honest listings

EZVIZ appears three times, and it does something on one of those listings that is rare in its hub.

Naming the absences

The CP2 door viewer states plainly that it has no motion detector and no night vision. Two features, named as not present, on the manufacturer’s own page.

This category is full of products bought for something they do not do, and a listing that says so first prevents exactly the disappointment that fills its reviews. It is to the company’s credit and it is why the CP2 is in this catalog.

The intercoms

The CP5 and CP7 put a 7-inch touchscreen on a wall, which is what separates an intercom from a video doorbell: anybody in the house can answer it, including people who will not install an app. For a household with more than one adult, or with an older relative, that is the whole argument.

Both join the router over Wi-Fi from the indoor monitor; the CP5 also wires its outdoor unit to the monitor over two wires, four-wire compatible, so answering from the wall panel does not depend on the network — only answering from the phone does.

What still has to be bought

The gate release output drives an electric strike; it does not supply one. That second half is frequently the larger job.

Every EZVIZ product we have reviewed

  • EZVIZ CP2

    4.3-inch screen · 146° view · 2 MP · no motion sensor · no night vision

A 4.3-inch screen and a 146° lens, and EZVIZ is unusually direct about what it does not have: no motion detector and no night vision. It shows who is at the door when somebody rings or when you look.

Best for: A household wanting a large, simple screen — including for people who will not use an app.

    8.1/10

  • EZVIZ CP5

    1080p · 7-inch color touchscreen · 134° view · remote door and gate release · two-wire and Wi-Fi

A 7-inch touchscreen indoor monitor with a 134° outdoor unit and a gate release output, wired to the door over two wires (four-wire compatible) and joined to the router over dual-band Wi-Fi. EZVIZ states 1080p, night vision and two-way audio with voice change.

Best for: A house that wants a screen on the wall rather than an app, with a two- or four-wire cable already running to the door.

    7.2/10

  • EZVIZ CP7

2K · 7-inch touchscreen · 162° view · three ways to open · person detection with custom zones

The 2K version of EZVIZ's intercom, with a 162° field of view and three ways to release the door — from the monitor, from the app, or with the supplied RFID card — plus person detection with a user-defined area.

Best for: The same job as the CP5 with a wider, sharper image and a detection zone that can exclude the pavement.
