ABUS 2110 vs ABUS 2130

What actually separates these two ABUS rim locks?

Both mount on the inside face of the door, with a key outside, a thumbturn inside, a two-turn deadbolt and two keys supplied, and both are sold for the closing edge of an entrance door. The difference is in what each listing publishes: the 2110 states its five-pin cylinder, the door thickness it takes and the 32 mm (1.26 in) bore; the 2130 states its white finish.

Which of the two, for which home

ABUS 2110

No amazon.com listing was found for this one. We hold references for other markets but none for the United States, so it may not be buyable here — which is the first thing to weigh against anything below.

Buy the 2110 if you want to check before ordering: it publishes the door thickness it takes — 35 to 50 mm (1.38 to 1.97 in) — and the 32 mm (1.26 in) bore, which you can hold against your actual door.

Buy the ABUS 2130

Buy the 2130 if the inside hardware should stay white, and measure your door first: its listing publishes neither the door thickness nor the bore.

The questions we are asked

Why fit a second lock instead of a better one?

Because two locks at different heights spread the load across more of the frame, and a door forced at one point still holds at the other. It is the same reasoning as a multipoint lock, arrived at without replacing the door.

Does either help if the frame is weak?

No, and nothing on this page does. A rim lock is bolted to a strike, and a strike held by two short screws in a soft lining is what fails. Long screws into the structural stud behind it cost almost nothing and change the outcome.
