Most doors fail at the frame, not at the lock · review
ABUS 2110 review
ABUS's additional rim lock: a thumbturn inside, a key outside, and a five-pin cylinder. Stated for doors 35 to 50 mm (1.38 to 1.97 in) thick with recesses up to 21 mm (0.83 in), and needing a 32 mm (1.26 in) round hole for the cylinder.
The conclusion The one to fit if you fit only one. It addresses the edge that actually gets levered, and it opens from inside without a key.
Front doors are not usually picked. They are levered, at the edge opposite the
hinges, near the lock — and a second bolt on that edge is the direct answer to
that specific attack.
What ABUS has built
A rim lock with a two-turn deadbolt, a thumbturn on the inside and a key
cylinder on the outside. That combination is the useful one: you leave without
hunting for a key, and you lock behind you from the street.
The five-pin cylinder is described by ABUS as a quality cylinder against
manipulation. As everywhere on this site, that is the manufacturer’s
description and not a test result from here.
The measurements that decide whether you can fit it
A door 35 to 50 mm (1.38 to 1.97 in) thick, a recess of 0 to 21 mm (0 to 0.83 in), and a 32 mm (1.26 in) round hole bored
through for the cylinder. Check all three before ordering. And if the door is
a fire door — most apartment entrance doors are — establish whether boring it is
permitted at all.
The keep, again
The lock is bolted to the door and its keep is screwed to the frame. Fit the
keep with screws long enough to reach the structural stud, not the lining.
Every page in this hub says this because it is the single change that most
affects the outcome, and it is free.
Who it suits
A solid front door of ordinary thickness, on a household allowed to drill it.

The questions we are asked
Why the closing edge rather than the hinge side?
Because that is where a lever goes. A door is prised at the edge opposite its hinges, near the existing lock, and a second bolt higher or lower on that edge spreads the force across more of the frame. ABUS makes hinge-side bolts as a separate product for the other half of the problem.
Do I really have to drill a 32 mm (1.26 in) hole?
Yes — the cylinder passes through the door so that it can be operated by key from outside. That is what makes this different from an inside-only bolt. Measure your door thickness against the stated 35 to 50 mm (1.38 to 1.97 in) range first, and consider whether it is a fire door.
Is a thumbturn inside safe here?
On a solid door, yes, and it means the door opens from inside without a key. If there is glazing or a mailbox within reach of the thumbturn, the calculation changes — the same consideration as with a thumbturn cylinder.
