ABUS FTS3003 review
A bolt-action window lock for inward-opening windows and French windows. ABUS states a four-pin cylinder, keyed-alike operation, and a mechanism that locks by pushing — the key is needed only to open it.
The conclusion The window lock that stays in use, because closing it needs no key. Check what your frames are made of first.
Securing a door reliably moves attention to the windows beside it, and
ground-floor casements are where that attention goes.
The feature that matters is behavioral
You lock a window by pushing the bolt home. The key is only needed to open it
again. That sounds minor and it is the difference between a lock that is used
every night for years and one that is used for two weeks — because a lock
that demands a key at bedtime is a lock people stop bothering with.
The fixing decides whether it works at all
ABUS states the lock holds on vinyl only with the appropriate fixing kit. A
vinyl frame is a plastic shell around a steel reinforcement channel, and screws
that reach only the plastic pull straight out. Finding the reinforcement, or
buying the kit designed to reach it, is the whole installation.
On timber, ordinary long screws into solid wood are fine.
The rating, read properly
ABUS security level 5, on ABUS’s own scale. It ranks this product
against other ABUS products. It is not a published European standard, and this
page does not translate it into resistance.
One thing to think about before fitting
A locked window is not an escape route. Key every window lock in the house
alike — this one is — and keep the key where somebody could reach it in the
dark, out of sight of the glass.
Who it suits
Any accessible window on a timber or properly-kitted vinyl frame.

The questions we are asked
What does "locks by pushing" change?
Whether it gets used. A window lock that needs a key to close is a window lock that stops being locked after two weeks. Push-to-lock means the habit survives, and the key comes out only when you want the window open.
Will it work on vinyl?
Only with the correct fixing kit, which ABUS states explicitly. A vinyl frame has a steel reinforcement channel inside it, and screws that reach only the plastic pull out under any real force. If you cannot locate the reinforcement, the lock is decoration.
What is ABUS security level 5?
ABUS's own comparative scale, used to rank its products against each other. It is not EN 1627 or any other published standard, and this site reports it as the manufacturer's classification rather than as a measure of resistance.
