A key safe is only as good as what it is bolted to · review
ABUS KeyGarage 787 (white) review
The white version of the KeyGarage 787, for a stuccoed or painted wall where a dark box would be conspicuous. Identical capacity, housing and mechanism.
The conclusion The same box, in the color that hides on most modern walls. Choose on what the wall is made of.
There is nothing mechanically different here from the 787 reviewed above:
twenty keys, steel housing, zinc dial flap, sliding cover, removable rack.
Why a finish gets its own page
Because concealment is part of how a key safe works, and it is the part people
skip. A key safe that nobody notices is a key safe nobody tries, and on a
white rendered or painted wall a white box is genuinely close to invisible
from the pavement while a metal one catches the light.
On brick, stone or dark render the calculation reverses, and the metal version
is the discreet one. Choose on the wall rather than on taste.
The one cosmetic cost
White shows dirt, and on a shaded north-facing elevation it will green over
within a few years. Since the code should be changed twice a year anyway, a
wipe at the same time deals with it.
Everything else, briefly
Masonry fixings, out of sight of the street, not beside the door it opens, and
a code that changes whenever the list of people changes. That is what decides
whether any box in this hub works.
Who it suits
The same building as the metal version, with lighter walls.

The questions we are asked
Does the color do anything useful?
On the right wall, yes. Concealment is a real part of how a key safe works — the box that is not noticed is the box nobody tries — and a white box on white render is genuinely less visible than a metal one. On brick or stone it is the opposite.
Is it otherwise the same product?
Yes. ABUS lists the same capacity, the same steel housing with a zinc dial flap, the same removable rack and the same weight. Choose on the wall.
Any downside to white outdoors?
It shows dirt, and on a shaded north-facing wall it will green over in a few years. That is cosmetic, and a wipe when you change the code twice a year deals with it.
