ABUS Titalium 64TI/50HB60-150 review
ABUS's cellar padlock: an 8 mm (0.31 in) hardened shackle that extends from 60 to 150 mm (2.36 to 5.91 in), in a 281 g (9.9 oz) Titalium body, with a paracentric keyway and double shackle locking.
The conclusion Bought for reach, not for strength. Set it to the shortest length that closes.
This padlock exists to solve a geometry problem. Old doors, wrought-iron
gates and hasps that were made rather than bought frequently need more
clearance than any standard shackle offers, and the usual workaround is a
length of chain and a second lock.
What it does
The shackle extends from 60 mm (2.36 in) to 150 mm (5.91 in) and locks at the length you set. One
object, no chain, no second lock, and 8 mm (0.31 in) of hardened steel — level with the thickest in
this hub.
The obvious warning
An extended shackle is exposed shackle. At 150 mm (5.91 in) there is more steel
available to a bolt cropper than on any other lock here, and the extension is
a convenience that must not become a habit. Set it to the shortest length that
will close, every time.
If the shackle is going to be long, a shrouded or closed-shackle lock from
another maker is the more coherent answer.
Weight and corrosion
281 g (9.9 oz) in Titalium: heavier than the everyday 64TI and still light for its
size, and it will not seize on a cellar door that stays damp all winter.
Seizing is what actually ends most padlocks in this application.
Who it suits
Cellar doors, old ironwork, and anywhere the hasp was not designed with a
padlock in mind.

What reassures, and what does not
Strengths
Shackle extends from 60 to 150 mm (2.36 to 5.91 in), which almost nothing else does
8 mm (0.31 in) shackle, level with the thickest in this hub
Same Titalium corrosion resistance in a heavier body
ABUS security level 6 — a step above the everyday model
Compromises
An extended shackle is an enormous target for a cropper
281 g (9.9 oz) is noticeably heavy to carry
Extending mechanisms have more to go wrong than a fixed shackle
Costs twice the everyday 64TI

The questions we are asked
When do I need an extendable shackle?
When nothing else reaches. Old cellar doors, wrought-iron gates and improvised hasps often need 100 mm (3.94 in) or more of clearance, and the alternative is a chain and a second lock. This solves it in one object.
Should I extend it fully?
Only as far as it has to go. Every millimeter of extension is exposed steel, and a shackle at 150 mm (5.91 in) is the easiest target in this entire hub. Set it to the shortest length that closes and lock it there.
Is 8 mm (0.31 in) enough against croppers?
Better than 6.5, and still cuttable with the right tool. Shackle diameter buys time rather than immunity. If the contents genuinely matter, a closed-shackle lock — where there is nothing to get a jaw around — is a different class of product.

Boron carbide, stated as premium super-hard material for significantly improved cut and saw resistance against hardened steel. This shelf's introduction names boron alloy as one of three things the shackle specification should tell you, and this is the only lock on this shelf that offers it — the other six are hardened steel, brass or unspecified
A freely rotating hardened steel shackle with heel-and-toe locking, in a D-shaped body stated to grant very little access for bolt cutters or saws. Heel-and-toe means the shackle is secured at both ends, so cutting one side does not open the lock — both legs must be cut. It is the strongest shackle arrangement on this shelf
If price decides: BURG-WÄCHTER Alutitan 770 HB 40 65, at $32.

6.5 mm (0.26 in) shackle · 63 mm (2.48 in) high shackle · Titalium body, 107 g (3.8 oz) · paracentric key · ABUS level 5
ABUS's everyday Titalium padlock with a high 63 mm (2.48 in) shackle: a special-aluminum body at 107 grams, a hardened steel shackle, a paracentric keyway against manipulation, and double shackle locking.
Best for: Doors, lockers and tool boxes where the lock is carried, opened often, and left outdoors between times.
6.9 mm (0.27 in) shackle · aluminum body · high shackle, 22.3 mm (0.88 in) wide · double locking · 2 keys
A light aluminum-bodied padlock with a 6.9 mm (0.27 in) hardened shackle and a high shackle 22.3 mm (0.88 in) wide. BURG-WÄCHTER states double shackle locking and two keys.
Best for: A gate latch or a barrier where the shackle must reach through something thick, and the value behind it is modest.
60 mm (2.36 in) cast-iron monoblock body · chrome-plated hardened bolt · shrouded shackle
A monoblock cast-iron padlock: the body encloses the shackle so that very little of it is exposed. KOTARBAU states a chrome-plated hardened steel bolt in a solid cast body.
Best for: A shed, a store or a gate where a cropper is the realistic threat rather than a curious hand.
