ABUS Titalium 64TI/40HB63 review
ABUS's everyday Titalium padlock with a high 63 mm (2.48 in) shackle: a special-aluminum body at 107 grams, a hardened steel shackle, a paracentric keyway against manipulation, and double shackle locking.
The conclusion The everyday carrying padlock, light, with a body that does not rust. Choose the shortest shackle that reaches.
This is the padlock most people should own for ordinary jobs: light enough to
carry, immune to seizing, and cheap enough that losing one is not an event.
The weight is the point
107 grams. A brass padlock of the same size is three times that, and a lock
that is a nuisance to carry is a lock that gets left off. Titalium — ABUS’s
aluminum alloy — is why, and the same property means it will still open after
a winter on a gate.
The high shackle, and how to think about it
63 mm (2.48 in) of clearance reaches through thick hasps, chain links and awkward
brackets that a standard shackle cannot. It also puts 63 mm (2.48 in) of hardened steel
where a bolt cropper can reach it.
The rule is simple and worth repeating on every padlock page: buy the shortest
shackle that physically reaches. Every millimeter of exposed steel is attack
surface, and a closed-shackle lock — where almost nothing is exposed — is the
biggest single step available in this family.
The keyway
Paracentric, which is a real anti-picking measure and irrelevant to the way
padlocks are actually defeated. Nobody picks a garden padlock; they cut it.
Read the keyway as protection against a neighbor with a curiosity, not
against a tool.
Who it suits
Lockers, tool boxes, gates and anything opened daily and left out between
times.

The questions we are asked
What is a paracentric keyway?
A keyway with an offset, wandering profile rather than a straight slot. It makes it physically harder to get picking tools alongside the key path. It is a genuine anti-manipulation feature and it does nothing at all against a bolt cropper, which is what actually opens padlocks.
Is a high shackle a bad idea?
It is a trade. A high shackle reaches through thick hasps and awkward geometry; it also exposes 63 mm (2.48 in) of steel to a cropper. Buy the shortest shackle that will physically reach, always — the exposed length is the attack surface.
What does ABUS level 5 mean?
That ABUS rates it at level 5 on its own scale, used to compare its products with each other. It is not a European standard and this site does not translate it into a resistance figure.

Zinc alloy, stated. Die-cast zinc does not rust and is softer than steel

8 mm (0.31 in) shackle · extendable 60–150 mm (2.36 to 5.91 in) shackle · 281 g (9.9 oz) · paracentric key · ABUS level 6
ABUS's cellar padlock: an 8 mm (0.31 in) hardened shackle that extends from 60 to 150 mm (2.36 to 5.91 in), in a 281 g (9.9 oz) Titalium body, with a paracentric keyway and double shackle locking.
Best for: A hasp or a bracket where nothing standard reaches — cellar doors, old gates, awkward ironwork.
6.9 mm (0.27 in) shackle · aluminum body · high shackle, 22.3 mm (0.88 in) wide · double locking · 2 keys
A light aluminum-bodied padlock with a 6.9 mm (0.27 in) hardened shackle and a high shackle 22.3 mm (0.88 in) wide. BURG-WÄCHTER states double shackle locking and two keys.
Best for: A gate latch or a barrier where the shackle must reach through something thick, and the value behind it is modest.
60 mm (2.36 in) cast-iron monoblock body · chrome-plated hardened bolt · shrouded shackle
A monoblock cast-iron padlock: the body encloses the shackle so that very little of it is exposed. KOTARBAU states a chrome-plated hardened steel bolt in a solid cast body.
Best for: A shed, a store or a gate where a cropper is the realistic threat rather than a curious hand.
