BASI 1100-0050 (3-pack) review
Three window security bolts operated by push button rather than by key, which BASI states lock by hand and release quickly. Each comes with four M5 × 50 mm (0.20 × 1.97 in) self-tapping screws.
The conclusion The practical way to do a whole ground floor. Keyless is the right answer for most windows and the wrong one for a few.
Window locks fail for one reason above all others: they stop being used. A
lock that needs a key at bedtime is locked for two weeks and then forgotten,
and a house full of unlocked window locks is a house with none.
Push button, no key
You lock it by hand, you release it by hand. Nothing to find, nothing to lose,
nothing to hunt for at eleven at night. That is why keyless designs are locked
far more often than keyed ones, and being locked is the entire specification.
When keyless is wrong
Two cases. Where a child might release it — a first-floor window over a hard
surface is the obvious one. And where glass is close enough that a hand could
reach the catch after breaking it, which is the argument for a keyed lock on a
glazed door.
Everywhere else, keyless wins.
The screws
Four M5 × 50 mm (0.20 × 1.97 in) self-tapping screws per unit, which is longer than most window
locks supply and worth having. On timber that reaches solid material. On vinyl
it still has to find the steel channel inside the frame, and length does not
substitute for aim.
Three at a time
Which is roughly a ground floor. Count the windows somebody could reach
standing on the ground; that is the number you need, and the five-pack exists
for larger houses.
Who it suits
A whole ground floor, done in an afternoon, on windows nobody needs to lock
against the people inside.

The questions we are asked
Keyless — is that a weakness?
It depends who is inside. Keyless locking means the window can be released instantly from within, which is what you want in a fire and not what you want if the concern is a child opening it or somebody reaching the catch through broken glass. Decide which of those applies to the window in question.
Are 50 mm (1.97 in) screws long enough?
They are longer than most window locks are supplied with, which is why they are worth mentioning. On timber they reach solid material. On vinyl they still have to find the steel reinforcement inside the frame, and no screw length substitutes for hitting it.
Three or five?
Count the windows somebody could reach without a ladder. That is the number to buy: three for a small ground floor, the five-pack beyond that. BASI sells the same lock in a five-pack for the larger case.

Hinge-side lock · bolt rated to one metric ton of pressure · ABUS level 10 · 123 × 42 × 86 mm (4.84 × 1.65 × 3.39 in)
A hinge-side security bolt for inward-opening windows — the side almost nobody reinforces. ABUS states the bolt protects up to one metric ton of pressure and rates it at security level 10 on its own scale.
Best for: The half of the window that every other lock in this hub ignores.
Bolt lock, inward-opening windows · 4-pin cylinder · keyed alike · ABUS level 5 · key to open only
A bolt-action window lock for inward-opening windows and French windows. ABUS states a four-pin cylinder, keyed-alike operation, and a mechanism that locks by pushing — the key is needed only to open it.
Best for: Ground-floor windows that get locked every night, where hunting for a key each time would end the habit.
Five window locks · push-button, no key · M5×50 screws supplied · white
The five-unit box of BASI's keyless window bolt, for a house with more accessible windows than a three-pack covers. Same push-button mechanism and same 50 mm (1.97 in) screws.
Best for: A house with five or more reachable windows — usually a front, a back and a side.
