BASI V55 (keyed-alike pair) review
Two cylinders that take the same key, with ten keys between them. BASI states the V55 range is tested to EN 1303:2015 and supplied direct from the manufacturer, with an emergency function on both.
The conclusion The cylinder in this hub whose maker states a standard without qualification, and the cheapest way to get one key for two doors.
Two cylinders, one key. That is the product, and for a house with a front door
and a back door it removes the most persistent small annoyance in a household.
The standard, reported as stated
BASI states the V55 range is tested to EN 1303:2015 — the European standard
covering cylinders for locks, which grades durability, key security and attack
resistance. That is a manufacturer declaration and this page reports it as
one. We are not a testing body, we do not assess conformity, and the listing
does not publish the individual grades within the standard.
It is nevertheless the clearest such statement in this hub — the GERCAR MLBL-60P3
also cites EN 1303, but only “on the essential points” and with no certificate — and it is worth
something that the maker is prepared to make it.
What keying alike costs
One key opens both doors, which means one lost key opens both doors. That is
the honest shape of the trade. It also means that when you do lose it, both
cylinders need replacing rather than one — so keep a spare somewhere other
than the house, and keep the code card separately from the keys.
Both are 30/30
Which suits two doors of similar thickness. A front door and a garage side
door are often different, and the pair is then the wrong purchase — measure
both before ordering, from the center screw hole to each face.
Who it suits
A house with two doors of the same build, and an owner who is tired of two
keys.

The questions we are asked
What does EN 1303:2015 cover?
It is the European standard for cylinders for locks, and it grades them on durability, key security, attack resistance and related properties. BASI states the range is tested to it. We report that as a manufacturer declaration: this site is not a testing body and does not assess conformity, and the listing does not publish the individual grades.
Is keying alike a security risk?
It is a trade. One key for a front and back door means one key to carry and one key to lose — and if it is lost, both doors need rekeying rather than one. Most households decide the convenience is worth it, and it is worth deciding deliberately rather than by accident.
Can I add a third cylinder later?
Only with the code from the card, and only while the manufacturer still supplies that code. Keep the card somewhere safe and separate from the keys, and order the third cylinder sooner rather than later if you know you want it.

30/30 mm (1.18 in) · anti-pick pins · emergency function · 5 reversible keys · code card
ABUS's everyday euro cylinder: special pins for pick and manipulation resistance, an emergency function that works with a key in the other side, and five reversible keys with a code card for reordering.
Best for: Replacing a builder's cylinder on a front door, at the smallest sensible price.
40/50 mm (1.97 in) · usable in either orientation · anti-pick pins · emergency function · 5 keys
The same D6XNP cylinder in 40/50, for a thicker door or a door with a heavier handle set. ABUS states it can be fitted in either orientation, with the same emergency function, pins and code card.
Best for: A thicker door, or one where the 30/30 measured short.
Three 30/30 cylinders keyed alike · solid brass, matt nickel · 15 keys · 5 and 8 cm (3.1 in) screws
Three keyed-alike cylinders in solid brass with a matt nickel finish, and fifteen keys between them. GERCAR states stock keying, which is what makes a three-cylinder set affordable, and supplies both 50 and 80 mm (3.15 in) fixing screws.
Best for: A house with three doors — front, back and garage — that should all take one key.
