ABUS D6XNP 30/30 review
ABUS's everyday euro cylinder: special pins for pick and manipulation resistance, an emergency function that works with a key in the other side, and five reversible keys with a code card for reordering.
The conclusion The sensible replacement for whatever the builder fitted. Measure first, and do not let it stick out past the handle plate.
Most front doors in Europe are fitted with whatever euro cylinder was
cheapest when the door was hung. Replacing it is the least expensive
meaningful thing that can be done to a door, and this is the cylinder most
people should be looking at.
Measure it properly, or none of this matters
A euro cylinder is described by two numbers taken from the center screw hole
to each face: 30/30 here, meaning 30 mm (1.18 in) inside and 30 mm (1.18 in) outside. It is never
described by its total length alone, and the two halves are usually different
on a real door.
Get it wrong in the other direction and the long half ends up outside, proud
of the handle plate — which is precisely the part a tool grips. A cylinder
that protrudes is the single most common installation fault in this family.
The emergency function
The cylinder still works from outside when a key has been left in the inside.
Every household with more than one person eventually needs this, and in an
emergency it stops a door being unopenable from the outside.
What ABUS states, and what it does not
Special pins against picking and manipulation, five reversible keys, and a
code card for reordering. Snap resistance is not described on this listing, so
this page does not claim it — and snapping is the attack a euro cylinder
actually faces.
Who it suits
Anybody replacing an unknown cylinder on a normal door, who has measured it.

The questions we are asked
How do I measure the cylinder I need?
From the center screw hole to each face, separately. A cylinder is 30/30 or 40/50, never simply "60 mm (2.36 in)" — the two halves are usually different, and fitting one the wrong way round leaves the long half outside, which is exactly where it should not be. Measure before ordering, with the door open.
What is the emergency function for?
It lets the cylinder be operated from outside even when somebody has left a key in the inside. Without it, a key left in the lock blocks the cylinder completely — which is a nuisance every day and a serious problem if somebody inside needs help.
Is this cylinder anti-snap?
ABUS describes pick and manipulation resistance on this listing and does not describe snap resistance, so we do not claim it. Snapping is the commonest attack on a euro cylinder, and if that is your concern, look for a cylinder whose maker states it explicitly and size it so it does not protrude.

40/50 mm (1.97 in) · usable in either orientation · anti-pick pins · emergency function · 5 keys
The same D6XNP cylinder in 40/50, for a thicker door or a door with a heavier handle set. ABUS states it can be fitted in either orientation, with the same emergency function, pins and code card.
Best for: A thicker door, or one where the 30/30 measured short.
Two 30/30 cylinders keyed alike · 10 keys · emergency function · tested to EN 1303:2015
Two cylinders that take the same key, with ten keys between them. BASI states the V55 range is tested to EN 1303:2015 and supplied direct from the manufacturer, with an emergency function on both.
Best for: A front and back door, or a house and a garage, that should share one key.
Three 30/30 cylinders keyed alike · solid brass, matt nickel · 15 keys · 5 and 8 cm (3.1 in) screws
Three keyed-alike cylinders in solid brass with a matt nickel finish, and fifteen keys between them. GERCAR states stock keying, which is what makes a three-cylinder set affordable, and supplies both 50 and 80 mm (3.15 in) fixing screws.
Best for: A house with three doors — front, back and garage — that should all take one key.
