Fire ratings are a time and a temperature, and paper and drives differ · review
BURG-WÄCHTER FP 22 K review
A double-walled fire box with certified UL 72 fire protection for 30 minutes, from a safe manufacturer, and the only one in this hub that can be bolted to the floor.
The conclusion The only fire box here that can be bolted down. Still a fire box, and that combination is the reason to pay more.
Every fire box in this hub protects paper from fire and does nothing at all
about somebody carrying it out of the house. This one can be bolted to the
floor.
Why that gap exists everywhere else
A fire box is designed to be portable — grabbed in an evacuation, moved
between rooms — and portability and theft resistance are opposites. The result
is a category where the protection is complete in one dimension and absent in
the other.
Fixing it down closes half of that. It does not make it a safe: the body is
plastic with fire material in it, and it will not resist tools. What it does is
stop the box leaving under an arm, which is how fire boxes are actually lost.
The rating
Certified UL 72 fire protection for thirty minutes, stated by
BURG-WÄCHTER. The internal temperature class is not cited on this listing —
UL 72 Class 350 is the paper standard, and where a listing does not say, this
page does not assume.
The honest arrangement
For a household with both irreplaceable papers and valuables: a bolted steel
safe for the valuables, and this bolted alongside it for the papers. Neither
does the other’s job, and both cost less than one product pretending to do
both.
Who it suits
Anybody who has worked out that their fire box is also the easiest thing in
the house to steal.

The questions we are asked
Why is being boltable unusual here?
Because every other fire box in this hub is portable by design, which means the fire protection is complete and the theft protection is zero. Fixing it down addresses the second half. It does not make it a safe — the body is plastic with fire material — but it stops the box being carried out.
Is it certified or just claimed?
BURG-WÄCHTER states certified UL 72 fire protection for thirty minutes. That is a manufacturer's statement of a certification, and this page reports it as such — this site is not a testing body and does not verify conformity. The internal temperature class is not cited on the listing.
Fire box or safe?
Fire box. If you need resistance to force, a steel safe from the neighboring hub is the product, and it will not protect paper from fire. The two are genuinely different and a household with valuables and irreplaceable papers needs both.
