HUXGO HXA502 4G vs ABUS Smartvest Pro starter set

A second path to the outside world, or a system you can keep adding to?

HUXGO sells the feature that keeps an alarm working when the broadband goes, with two sensors and a solar siren in the box. ABUS sells the way into a system from a maker whose business is security: the starter set holds the hub and the siren, and every sensor is bought separately. Both arguments are real and they point at different households.

A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these products answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which home

HUXGO HXA502 4G

No amazon.com listing was found for this one. We hold references for other markets but none for the United States, so it may not be buyable here — which is the first thing to weigh against anything below.

Buy the HUXGO kit for the 4G path and the solar siren. A system that still reaches your phone with the router unplugged is doing the thing an alarm exists for.

ABUS Smartvest Pro starter set

No amazon.com listing was found for this one. We hold references for other markets but none for the United States, so it may not be buyable here — which is the first thing to weigh against anything below.

Buy the ABUS hub when this is the start of something — a house where sensors and door hardware from the same maker will be added over the years. Count the sensors in the price: the starter set includes none, and ABUS sensors cost more than generic ones.

The questions we are asked

Why does it matter whether the fallback is 2G or 4G?

Because the major American carriers have already switched 2G off. A 2G fallback is a feature that does nothing here; a 4G one will still be running for the life of the system.

What does the cellular path cost to run?

A SIM with a small monthly data plan — the alarm sends very little. It belongs in the comparison from the start rather than as a surprise after installation.

Will it lower my insurance premium?

Some insurers give a small discount for a monitored alarm, rarely for an unmonitored DIY kit. Neither of these is professionally monitored or calls the police: they alert you, and you decide. Ask your insurer before counting on a discount.
