SAYAYO EFD9000-B review
A stainless steel door chain with a reinforced link and a spring button, operated only from inside. SAYAYO states 200 mm (7.87 in) of chain, a 123 mm (4.84 in) main plate, and a complete screw set.
The conclusion A conversation device fitted with better screws than it came with. Do not mistake it for a lock.
A door chain does one job well and is regularly sold as doing another. It
lets you open a door far enough to see and speak to somebody without letting
them in. It does not resist force, and no chain at this price does.
Where it actually fails
Not the chain. The screws. Most door chains ship with short
screws that anchor into the soft lining of a door frame, and that lining
splits under a shoulder long before a stainless link does.
The fix costs nothing: replace them with 70 to 80 mm (2.76 to 3.15 in) screws that reach through
the lining into the structural stud behind it. That single change does more
than any upgrade in this hub, and it applies to strike plates and hinges as
well.
The other limitation
It only works from inside. A door cannot be left on the chain while you are
out, which is what people occasionally imagine. It is a device for being at
home and answering the door.
What SAYAYO does well
Stainless steel, so a hallway that gets damp does not leave a rust stain down
the paintwork in two years, and a spring button that works with one hand while
the other holds the door.
Who it suits
Anybody who opens the door to callers they cannot see first, and who is
willing to spend two minutes on better screws.

What reassures, and what does not
Strengths
Stainless steel, so it does not rust in a damp hallway
Operated from inside only, by design
Fits any position and angle on the frame, per the manufacturer
Complete screw set supplied
Compromises
A chain is a talking device, not a security device — it yields to a shoulder
Only as strong as the screws into the frame, and SAYAYO does not state their length
Not usable from outside, so a door cannot be left on the chain when out
The supplied screws should be replaced with longer ones

The questions we are asked
Will a door chain stop somebody?
No. A chain lets you speak to a caller through a gap and see who they are; it does not resist a determined shove, and the screws holding it are the weak point long before the chain is. Use it for what it is — a way to talk without opening — and do not treat it as a lock.
What should I do about the screws?
Replace them. SAYAYO does not state their length, and screws with this kind of hardware are often short and anchor into the door lining rather than the structural frame behind it. Longer screws, 70 to 80 mm (2.76 to 3.15 in), reaching into the stud, cost almost nothing and are the single most effective change you can make to any door hardware.
Can I put it on a vinyl door?
With care. vinyl frames have a steel reinforcement channel that must be found, and screws into plastic alone will pull out immediately. If you cannot locate the reinforcement, a chain on that door is decoration.
