X-Sense AS12 vs Goliath Basic AirShield Starter Set

More sensors, or a system that knows when a sensor goes quiet?

One kit gives more sensors. The other gives fewer but sounder engineering: a radio band reserved for the purpose, a hub that notices when a sensor goes quiet, and a photo of what set it off. Both include a keypad.

A tick marks the better answer on that line only. Counting ticks does not decide the page — the two verdicts below do, because these products answer different questions.

Which of the two, for which home

X-Sense AS12

No amazon.com listing was found for this one. We hold references for other markets but none for the United States, so it may not be buyable here — which is the first thing to weigh against anything below.

Buy the AS12 for a house with a lot of openings and more than one adult. Ten sensors and a keypad is what makes a system that gets armed every night rather than occasionally.

No amazon.com listing was found for this one. We hold references for other markets but none for the United States, so it may not be buyable here — which is the first thing to weigh against anything below.

Buy the Goliath set for the radio and the snapshot. Knowing whether it was a person or the cat is what stops you driving home, and a hub that reports a silent sensor is a hub that cannot be quietly defeated.

The questions we are asked

What is two-way radio and why does it matter?

The hub and each sensor confirm one another, so a dead battery, a removed sensor or a jammed radio is reported rather than assumed. One-way systems treat silence as normal — which is precisely the state an intruder is trying to produce.

Why does a keypad matter so much?

Because an alarm run only from an app is run only by the people who have the app. A household where a cleaner, a visitor or an elderly parent cannot disarm is a household that stops arming. Both kits include one: a code keypad on the X-Sense, an RFID keypad on the Goliath.
