BURG-WÄCHTER

A safe manufacturer, and it shows in the castings rather than in the marketing

BURG-WÄCHTER appears five times, and its most useful characteristic is candor.

The honesty is the specification

The Favor S3 E safe is described by the company as basic valuables protection, with a single-wall body. BURG-WÄCHTER also makes certified safes rated against European standards at several times the price, and drawing that line clearly — rather than blurring it — is unusual in this category and worth a great deal to a buyer.

Small mechanisms done properly

The Key Safe 10 states an auto-stop: the numbers click into place when the right combination is dialed, which makes opening easier in poor light. It does not return the dials to neutral when the box closes, and that is how key safe codes are actually discovered: somebody shuts it in a hurry and leaves the numbers standing.

The FP 22 K fire box can be bolted to the floor — the only fire box in the hub that addresses theft at all, because every other one in the family is portable by design.

What to check

Capacities are stated precisely and are smaller than they look: the Key Safe 10 takes keys up to 7 cm (2.8 in), which excludes long security keys and anything on a fob. Measure the key before buying the box.
