BASI

German lock hardware, sold in the quantities a whole house needs

BASI appears five times, and twice in a way that matters: it is the cylinder maker in this catalog that states a standard most plainly.

The standard, reported as stated

BASI states that its V55 range is tested to EN 1303:2015 — the European standard for cylinders for locks, covering durability, key security and attack resistance. This site reports that as a manufacturer’s declaration: we are not a testing body, we do not assess conformity, and the listing does not publish the individual grades within the standard.

It is nevertheless the most direct statement in the cylinder hub — the GERCAR MLBL-60P3 cites EN 1303 only “on the essential points” — and it is worth something that the company is prepared to make it.

The window locks, and why the packs matter

Sold in threes and fives, which is roughly a ground floor and a whole house. Window locks fail because they stop being used, and BASI’s push-button mechanism needs no key to lock — which is the difference between hardware that is engaged every night and hardware that is given up within a few weeks.

Fifty-millimeter (2 in) screws are supplied, long enough to reach the frame reinforcement.

Where to be careful

On vinyl, every window lock in this catalog holds only if the screws find the frame’s steel reinforcement. That is an installation question rather than a product one, and no packaging solves it.

Every BASI product we have reviewed

  • BASI 1000-0305

Dome shell · blinking LED · indoor or outdoor · fixings included · records nothing

A dome-shaped shell with a blinking LED and a molded lens, sold by a German lock and security hardware maker. It records nothing at all, and this page will not suggest otherwise.

Best for: A low-value approach already covered by a real camera elsewhere, where a second housing costs nine euros instead of ninety.

    7.2/10

  • BASI 1000-0305 (2-pack)

Two dome shells · blinking LED · indoor or outdoor · fixings included · records nothing

The two-shell box of the same BASI dome. Identical housing, identical blinking LED, identical absence of any camera — and a lower price per unit than buying two singles.

Best for: Two secondary corners on the same property, when the single has already proved good enough.

  • BASI 1100-0050 (3-pack)

Three window locks · push-button locking, no key · M5×50 self-tapping screws supplied · white

    7.5/10

  • BASI 1100-0050 (5-pack)

Five window locks · push-button, no key · M5×50 screws supplied · white

Two 30/30 cylinders keyed alike · 10 keys · emergency function · tested to EN 1303:2015

Best for: A front and back door, or a house and a garage, that should share one key.
