ABUS

The widest presence in this catalog, from locks to alarms

ABUS appears in more families of this catalog than any other manufacturer — and it is the only one that spans both mechanical security and alarm systems.

What it is genuinely good at

Mechanical hardware, and being specific about it. The D6XNP cylinders publish an emergency function and describe their pin construction; the FTS3003 window lock states that it locks by pushing and needs the key only to open, which is the detail that decides whether a window lock is still in use after two weeks; the FAS101 hinge-side lock exists at all, which almost no competitor bothers with.

The KeyGarage 787 holds twenty keys where its neighbors on that shelf take one to five, and ABUS states its Titalium padlocks are lighter than a brass equivalent.

Where to read it carefully

ABUS publishes a security level on much of its range. That is ABUS’s own comparative scale, used to rank its products against each other. It is not EN 1627, not RC2, and not any published European standard, and this site reports it as the manufacturer’s classification rather than as a measure of resistance.

Where a genuine certification exists, the difference is that a certification body is named.

The pattern across the catalog

Its products are rarely the cheapest and are consistently the ones whose listings tell you something specific. On a family where three of five competitors publish adjectives, that is the whole difference.
